People with asthma have long attempted to relieve their symptoms through lifestyle changes and other practices. For many, this means turning to pastimes such as yoga. Although this type of fitness regimen can boost mental and physical health, it may not have an effect on symptoms of asthma.
A recent study from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology said while yoga may certainly make asthmatics feel better, it is not a wholly effective treatment.
"Many asthma sufferers look to complementary therapies, such as yoga, to help relieve their symptoms," said Dr. Michael Foggs, an allergist and the president of the ACAAI, in a press release. "If yoga helps them to feel better and breathe better, patients should by all means practice it. At the same time, we don't advise that yoga be recommended to asthma sufferers as a treatment."
