  • Secondhand smoke may cause SIDS and other illnesses in children

Secondhand smoke has been linked to numerous health concerns in children, including asthma, bronchitis, ear infection, pneumonia and even Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

SIDS is characterized by the sudden and unexpected death of a child under one year of age for which no absolute cause can be determined even after an autopsy and further examinations have occurred, according to the American SIDS Institute. It is one of the most frightening and traumatic experiences a new parent can face.

While parents may not be able to control the air contaminants outside the home, there is something they can do to ensure that the air their children breathe inside the home is safe and clean. By investing in a home air purifier, parents can make sure that their children aren't exposed to any lingering toxins from secondhand smoke or other common indoor pollutants.

At FreshAirPro, we offer high-end medical-grade purification systems such as the IQAir GC MultiGas so you can ensure your family is protected from the health hazards caused by secondhand smoke and other pollutants.

  • New England air quality improves outdoors, but the indoors still presents risk

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released a report that indicates that the air quality in New England has improved in 2011. The region suffered only 16 days of unhealthy ozone levels, down from 28 in 2010, reports the Boston Herald. The preliminary data shows that it was the reduction of sweltering heat the region experienced that was responsible for the improved air quality.

While it's important to be aware of the air quality outdoors, oftentimes it's indoor air quality that causes the most damage. The majority of Americans spend most of their days indoors, whether at the office, in the home or in various other locations. According to the EPA, indoor air quality can be affected by biological pollutants, carbon monoxide, cleaning materials, emissions from fireplaces and heaters, pesticides, second-hand tobacco smoke and a host of other toxins.

These contaminants can cause symptoms such as irritation to the eyes, nose and throat, dizziness, fatigue and weakness, as well as more serious long-term illnesses like cancer, heart and respiratory diseases. In order to protect yourself, you should make sure the air you're breathing is safe by investing in a professional-grade air purifier.
