Dust mites and asthma
Posted on September 8, 2011 by FreshAirPro
Dust mites may be too small to see with the naked eye, but they make a big impact on the lives of allergy sufferers. In fact, new findings by researchers at the University of Melbourne suggest that dust mite sensitivity in toddlers is strongly linked with the development of asthma in childhood.
"Our study did not show [that] house dust mite[s] caused asthma, but it highlighted a strong correlation between sensitivity and more severe [wheezing] and asthma," explained Dr. Caroline Lodge, head of the study.
The results were significant. Seventy-five percent of the participants who tested positive for dust mite allergies as infants developed asthma by age 12, compared with only 36 percent who did not test positive for dust mites.
Air purifiers, like those available through FreshAirPro, can filter those irritating particles out of the air you breathe and keep your allergy and asthma symptoms under control. The IQAir HealthPro Plus is our best-selling air purifier, and with its HyperHEPA filtration system, it's easy to see why. While most purifiers can only capture particles .3 microns in size, the IQAir HealthPro Plus can filter ultra-fine particles as small as .003 microns in size, which is smaller than a virus.

New treatment may soon be available for nasal allergy sufferers
Posted on September 7, 2011 by FreshAirPro
A possible alternative to steroidal nasal spray antihistamines may be on the horizon for nasal allergy sufferers, according to a recent article from Reuters Health. The treatment involves intranasal carbon dioxide, which has yet to be approved and is still in clinical trials.
If it is approved, it could be good news for allergy sufferers who are reluctant to use steroids. However, some doctors, like Dr. Harold Nelson, an allergy specialist at National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado, are unimpressed. He believes it provides little improvement for the possible negative side effects, including watery eyes and headaches.
Regardless of whether the treatment is approved, there are a variety of alternatives to steroids and antihistamines, including neti pots, allergy shots and the use of an air purifier in the home. FreshAirPro sells top-of-the-line air purifiers like the Austin Allergy Air Machine. This top-selling model is the only one on the market to use high-efficiency gas absorption, or HEGA filtration, which removes contaminants before they can trigger symptoms.

Indoor air pollution
Posted on September 6, 2011 by FreshAirPro
Most people associate air pollution with smog and other outdoor pollutants, but household air pollution can be a major problem that triggers allergy and asthma symptoms. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, asthma has been a fast-growing problem in the last 20 years. As early as 1990, indoor air pollution was labeled a high-priority health risk by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencey (EPA).
As such, it's important to treat the air in your household and limit the amount of pollutants and allergens you and your family track into your home.
To reduce air pollution, you should be sure to keep the house ventilated and control sources of pollution. Our professional-grade air purifiers are extremely helpful in filtering pollutants and allergens out of the air you breathe.
The AllerAir AirMedic MCS is one of the most effective purifiers for those with multiple chemical sensitivity and allergies. It features a medical-grade HEPA filter to remove even the tiniest particles. This eco-friendly filter which uses no neoprene, styrofoam, caulking or glue will make you feel good about your health and your part in helping the environment.

How pollen allergies relate to certain food allergies
Posted on September 6, 2011 by FreshAirPro
Many people who suffer from hay fever may also be allergic to certain fruits, vegetables, nuts or spices. This condition is known as pollen-food allergy syndrome.
If you have a pollen allergy, you may notice that taking a bite out of an apple leaves your mouth itchy or tingly. Other common foods related to this type of allergy include hazelnuts, peaches, pears, raw potatoes, bananas and tomatoes - to name a few.
Symptoms can range from a slight annoyance to swelling of the throat or anaphylactic shock. The allergy occurs because proteins in the fruits and vegetables are similar to the proteins in their pollen. Many report symptoms only when these foods are consumed raw.
Those who suffer from cross-related allergies are often extremely discouraged from having to deal with the nasal and respiratory symptoms from pollen in addition to the food allergy. The good news is, you can reduce many of your airborne allergy symptoms, at least in your home.
Our professional-grade air purifiers can rid the air in your home of common allergens. One such product, AllerAir AirMedic+ Vocarb, is specifically designed to control allergens and other particles that exacerbate allergies and asthma. Its advanced, medical-grade HEPA filtration technology performs at a higher level than in purifiers that only use standard HEPA filters.

Tips for fighting fall allergies
Posted on September 2, 2011 by FreshAirPro
With fall quickly closing in, ragweed and pollen allergies are out of control. There are simple and natural ways to keep allergy symptoms at bay, however.
Keep your windows up while driving, as this can be one of the worst places to experience symptoms.
Don't use window fans to cool your room down if you suffer from allergies, as they can actually pull allergens like pollen into your room. To clean the air of existing allergens, consider purchasing an air filtration system. FreshAirPro sells the best brands in the clean air industry, such as IQAir.
The HealthPro Plus by IQAir is one of the best air purifiers available today. While most air purifiers can only remove particles larger than .3 microns, IQAir's HealthPro Plus features the HyperHEPA filtration system, which can actually filter particles as small as .003 microns in size.
Using a neti pot daily to irrigate sinuses is also usually very helpful to those suffering from nasal and sinus-related allergy symptoms.
Enjoy the weather this fall without the terrible allergies that usually keep you confined indoors.
