Hot, dry air may be trapping air pollution at ground-level

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection recently announced an ozone alert across the region due to high levels of air pollution, according to The York Daily Record.

Smog may cause health complications not only for those with respiratory ailments, but for individuals with allergies as well. Particles such as toxins from exhaust and carbon emissions can stay trapped at ground-level due to the heat. A lack of rain can also cause pollen and mold spores to stick around for longer during bouts of dry weather.

Small children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to health complications during high levels of air pollution.

"No heavy exercise," Ann de Bien, a nurse practitioner with Asthma and Allergy Consultants, told the news source. "You can wear a mask, but that's pretty cumbersome."

The IQ HealthPro Plus system is an air purifier that can benefit individuals who are having breathing complications as a result of the smog. Its HyperHEPA filter can remove particles smaller than 0.3 microns in size, such as pollen and cigarette smoke. The IQ HealthPro Plus can also reduce the risk of illness by removing airborne bacteria from up to 900 square feet of space.
